The Lewis River Channel Hiking Loop is a beautiful route in Yellowstone National Park. This trail is 10.8mi long and considered to be moderately challenging. With gorgeous views of the Lewis River and Lewis Lake, this hike is a great way to spend quality time with family and friends.
Getting there
This hike begins at the trailhead on the west side of South Entrance Road, just a quarter mile north of the Heart Lake Trailhead.

Lewis River Channel Loop Description
The Lewis River Channel Loop is a wonderful circuit in the Wyoming wilderness. This trail is reasonably long, so be sure to start early in the day and allow yourself plenty of time to complete your hike before dark. This route is mostly flat and can be a great hike for families with older children. With gorgeous views throughout, this trail is a wonderful way to explore and experience the beauty of Yellowstone National Park.
Beginning at the parking area, follow the Lewis River Channel Trail west to hike the circuit clockwise. Follow the path along the north shore of Lewis Lake and along the east bank of the Lewis River up to Shoshone Lake. At Shoshone Lake, stick to the trail on your right to loop back down to the trailhead where you began.
