Red Rock Point via the Red Rock Trail is a fantastic route in Yellowstone National Park. This trail gives you some of the best views of the Lower Falls on the Yellowstone River. Yellowstone’s Lower Falls are some of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Park. Twice the height of Niagara Falls, the Lower Falls are guaranteed to take your breath away.
Getting there
This hike begins at the parking area on the south side of North Rim Drive, just east of the Brink of the Lower Falls Trailhead.

Red Rock Point via Red Point Trail Description
The hike to Red Rock Point via the Red Point Trail is a must-do on your trip to Yellowstone National Park. This trail is short, but it is steep. Be sure to wear proper hiking shoes for this route. We strongly recommend bringing along your hiking poles for this hike, especially if you have knee pain or joint issues. Fair warning, this trail does get very busy, especially in the summertime. If you are visiting Yellowstone at the height of tourist season, check out this trail early in the day to beat the crowds.
The Red Rock Point via Red Point Trail is popular for a reason. With incredible views of the Lower Falls and Yellowstone Canyon, this trail is breathtaking.
Beginning at the trailhead, follow the path south for about a hundred feet to a divide. Check out the Canyon Overlook Viewpoint on your left before continuing down the trail on your right to Red Rock Point.
Take a long rest at Red Rock Point and soak in the incredible views. Be sure to snap a few photos before turning around and climbing back up to the trailhead where you began.

Lower Falls
The Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River is the waterfall with the largest volume in the American Rocky Mountains. At 308 feet tall, these falls are almost twice the height of Niagara Falls. The best time to see the Lower Falls is the late spring when the meltwater swells the river.
