Mount Ouray Hike Description
The Mount Ouray Trail is a stimulating expedition in the southernmost region of the Sawatch Mountain Range. The secluded nature of the trail is ideal for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of busy Colorado 14er ascents. With no explicit trail, we highly suggest using the trail GPS to help navigate the unmarked terrain. Additionally, when hiking in the winter and fall, be sure to strap on some snowshoes or microspikes for better traction.
Begin your adventure along the Mount Ouray Hike from the trailhead off the Marshall Pass Road. This exciting adventure will guide hikers northeast up the southwestern slope of Mount Ouray. Initially hiking through the woodlands, the path will soon leave the timberline and wind through the vibrant alpine tundra, dotted with wildflowers in the summer months. Eventually, the route will climb up a steep ridge, which reveals sweeping views of the mountainous wilderness and the looming peak above.
Soon you will summit Mount Ouray. From atop the Colorado 13er, you will be rewarded with uninterrupted, postcard-worthy views. Once you are finished reveling in the scenery, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
