Hope Pass via Willis Gulch Trail Description
The alpine tundra is just waiting to be explored, and the Hope Pass via Willis Gulch Trailhead will allow you to do just that. Trek through the vibrant alpine tundra littered with wildflowers, mountain goats, and overly friendly marmots as you make your way up to the pass. As the terrain is almost entirely exposed it is important to keep half an eye on the skies for a brewing storm. Additionally, when hiking in the winter or fall months, be sure to tack on some microspikes to safely navigate the likely icy and snow-cloaked terrain.
Begin your journey along the Hope Pass via Willis Gulch Hike from the Willis Creek Trailhead. From here, take the Willis Creek Trail to the junction. Here, veer right and you will be diverted onto the Willis Gulch Cutoff Trail. This section of the path will guide adventurers through the evergreen forests interspersed with golden aspen groves. At the next intersection, keep left and hike along the Willis Gulch Trail. This path will graduate from the timberline and lead you through a vibrant alpine tundra.
Intersecting with several snowmelt streams you will eventually reach the saddle. Revel in the grandeur of the encompassing snow-capped peaks, noticing Quail Mountain in the east, and Mount Hope in the west. Enjoy the stunning high-country scenery and retrace your footing along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
