The Gold Knob Trail Description

The Gold Knob Trail is a fantastic low-traffic hike southeast of Moab, UT. This trail is steep and sits at a significant altitude, so hikers should be prepared for a strenuous climb. Hiking poles and sturdy boots are essential for this trail. It can be windy up top, so a jacket or extra layer is recommended as well—this hike often has snow near the summit, especially early in the season. However, the views from the top of Gold Knob are totally worth the effort. And, because this trail is off-the-beaten-path, you may have those views all to yourself.

From the Warner Campground, follow the trail northeast. 0.8mi in you will reach the junction of Mountain View Trail and Miner’s Basin Trail. Stay left to follow Miner’s Basin for approximately 0.8mi to the next divide. Take a left again at this divide to climb the last 0.6mi up to the top of Gold Knob.

Take a well-deserved rest at the summit and admire the views of Castle Valley and the La Sal Range. When you are ready to head down, follow the same trail back to the Warner Campground.
