Skyline Arch Trail

The Skyline Arch Trail is a short, easy hike that is a great way to get out in nature with the whole family. This trail is short and well maintained, but it is not wheelchair accessible. However, if you want to see Skyline Arch and require a wheelchair-friendly path, the arch can be viewed from the amphitheater at the Devils Garden Campground. The path to the amphitheater is paved and wheelchair and stroller-friendly. Although the Skyline Arch trail is relatively easy, there are not many places to rest in the shade along this route—make sure you bring along good sun protection and lots of water for you and your family.

Skyline Arch itself is one of the most photogenic formations in Arches National Park. For an especially spectacular view of the arch, try this hike at sunset to capture the orange glow of the Entrada sandstone against the desert sky as the sun dips below the horizon.

From the Skyline Arch Trailhead, follow the well-defined path north for 0.2mi to the arch. At the arch, note the large pile of rubble at the base—this is from a huge chunk of rock that fell from the arch in the 1940s.

When you are done exploring and playing around the Skyline Arch, simply follow the same path back to the trailhead and parking area.

Skyline Arch

The Skyline Arch is an impressive sandstone structure with an opening spanning 71ft. The opening of this arch roughly doubled in size in 1940 when a massive boulder broke off of the arch. Check out the before and after photos of this event at the trailhead, and see if you can spot the remnants of this erosion event at the base of the arch itself.
