The Pengenffordd to Capel-y-Fin Walk is a fantastic adventure in Brecon Beacons National Park that will lead you through the mountains and past historical sites. While out walking the trail, you will pass by the Norman Era Dinas Castle and climb uphill to Lord Hereford’s Knob, before descending into the valley on the way to Capel-y-Fin. This is a great walk for anyone interested in stunning mountain views and visiting historical sites.

Featuring lovely views of the Black Mountains of eastern Brecon Beacons National Park and an historic castle, the Pengenffordd to Capel-y-Fin Walk is a fantastic outdoor excursion that will get you away from the crowds to enjoy the natural beauty of southeast Wales.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will pass by the Dragon’s Back Pub and head to the northeast to view the ruins of Castle Dinas, a Norman Era castle that served to defend the Rhiangoll Pass and is situated 1476ft above sea level on the location of an old Iron Age hillfort, making it the highest castle in England and Wales.

After visiting the castle, you will continue onto the northeast to traverse the hillside, climbing uphill towards Lord Hereford’s Knob, where you will enjoy stunning views overlooking Gospel Pass. After taking in the views, you will make your way downhill to the southeast, descending into the valley in order to arrive at the end point of the route in Capel-y-Fin.
