Ystradfellte Four Waterfalls Walk Description:
The Ystradfellte Four Waterfalls Walk is a great route for a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts; however, there are some steep sections of terrain, as well as some slippery rocks around the falls that could prove to be dangerous. Be sure to wear proper walking footwear for this adventure. Additionally, the car park at the trailhead is free and quite small, so you will likely need to arrive early in order to secure a space.
You will almost certainly encounter a number of other walkers while out on this popular trail, but that only means that it is a great route worth exploring! Featuring serene woodland terrain, a relaxing riverside setting, and four breathtaking waterfalls, it is no wonder why this is such a well-trodden trail. If you enjoy relaxing in the forest and taking in the majesty of a cascading waterfall, then this is the perfect adventure for you.
Setting out from the car park, you will cross directly over the road and follow the track leading south for 0.7mi, traversing the lightly forested landscape before the trail turns to the southwest and arrives at a fork in the path. Here, you will take the path on the right and follow it into the cover of the forest as it thickens, leading you downhill to arrive at another junction in 0.4mi.
Turning right once again, you will make your way to the southwest for another 0.2mi, following the path further downhill through the beautifully atmospheric woodland setting until you arrive at the first waterfall along this route: Sgwd Uchaf Clun Gwyn. Keeping right along the banks of Afon Mellte, you will continue along the trail for 0.3mi and make a sharp right to cross over the river, where you will have amazing views of the second and third waterfalls, both known as Sgwd Isaf Clun Gwyn.
After taking in the views, cross back over the river and continue on to the southwest along the weather’s edge, following the path as it turns to the southeast and climbs uphill, eventually arriving at a junction after 0.8mi. Here, you will take the path on your right and traverse a series of steps to make your way down to the banks of Afon Hepste, where you will find the stunningly beautiful sight of the Sgwd yr Eira falls. Take some time to explore the area around the cascading falls and walk behind the curtain of water, before heading back up the stairs to the junction.
Once you have arrived back at the junction, turn right and follow the path for 0.1mi, keeping left onto the track and following it straight over the next 0.5mi. Here, you will come to a junction with the original path from your route. Turn right and follow it to the northeast to make your way back to the car park having completed the Ystradfellte Four Waterfalls Walk.
