Holden Lake via Holden Village Hike Description
Holden Lake is an underrated destination and the hike to reach it is wonderful in its own right. Enjoy plentiful wildflower blooms in the summertime and impressive views of the valley for most of the trail. The lake itself is quite big with plenty to see. We recommend an early start; going early in the day allows you to complete the hardest part of the trail without the full strength of the sun on your back.
The lake can get buggy, so bring a good spray. Beginning in the village, you’ll head out onto the road going west and follow it past the ghost town. Just before the road ends, a trail departs up to your right. Take this and stay right at the junction. The switchback begin soon, but the views of the valley should be enough motivation. The trail straightens out as it climbs towards the lake basin, and finally, you’ll crest the hill and find Holden Lake. Spend some time enjoying this secret spot before retracing your steps back to the village.
