St Newlyn East and Lappa Valley Circular Walk

Walking along the St Newlyn East and Lappa Valley Circular Trail will bring you through several stretches of woodland terrain and into close proximity with streams, meaning that there is a good likelihood that sections of the trail will be wet and muddy. Be sure to wear proper walking boots for this adventure, preferably ones that are water-resistant.

Although you might get your feet a bit wet, this walk is still a fun adventure that will allow you to explore the beautiful countryside of Cornwall. After passing through the charming village of St Newlyn East, you will pass through serene woodlands and traverse the open countryside while taking in the views of surrounding farmland. This is a great route if you are simply looking to get outside for some fresh air and aren’t overly concerned with stopping off at popular highlights.

Setting out from the car park, head left onto the road and follow it for a few steps, before turning right onto a marked footpath. After passing through a series of kissing gates, you will continue on to the southeast along the track until you meet up with Nanhayes Row. Turning left along the road, you will quickly pass by the Pheasant Inn and arrive at a fork in the road. Keep right here and after a few paces you will find another footpath on the right.

Turn right here and keep left along the footpath in order to skirt around the St Newlyn East Parish Church, descending some stairs to arrive at the edge of Halt Road. Turn left here and right at the next junction in order to follow Metha Road towards the east. After 0.6mi along the road, turn right onto a public footpath and cross over the stile to enter the forest.

Continue making your way south along the trail as it runs parallel to a small stream and passes through the forest to arrive at the edge of a lane. Turn left here and follow the lane for 420ft, where you will find another footpath on the left. Follow this across a small footbridge and rail line, before traversing an open field surrounded by some light woodland terrain. After meeting up with another lane, turn right and follow it to the southwest for 0.2mi, where you will come to a T-intersection. Turning to the right here, you will find a footpath on your left after a few paces.

After turning onto this new trail, keep to the right over the next 1.1mi as you traverse open fields and stretches of woodland terrain, while taking in the views of several wind farms to the southwest. Eventually, you will meet up with Station Road and turn right to follow it back towards St Newlyn East. After 0.5mi, you will see some public toilets on your left. Make your way past them onto Curtis VC Close and continue north across the road to return to the car park where you began the St Newlyn East and Lappa Valley Circular Walk.
