Mousehole and Newlyn Circular Walk

While the Mousehole and Newlyn Circular Walk is a beautiful adventure, it does utilize roadways for a good portion of its length. Be sure to exercise caution if travelling with young children or dogs through these areas. Additionally, there is a bit of uphill walking towards the beginning of the route, so make sure to wear proper walking footwear that will keep you comfortable throughout the journey.

Even if you aren’t a fan of walking along roadways, there is no denying that the scenery along the Mousehole and Newlyn Circular Walk is beautiful. As you make your way further along the route, you will pass through charming villages and lovely coastal farmland, before exploring the city streets of Newlyn and the stunning Cornish Coast itself. There is a good amount of variety on this short walk, so lace up your boots and get ready for a fun seaside adventure in beautiful Cornwall.

Setting out from the car park in Mousehole, you will make your way to the southwest and explore the charming village streets, before turning right onto Duck Street in order to make your way uphill to the northwest and out of the village. Here, you will follow along the road as it cuts across the picturesque countryside and passes through the village of Paul, where you will find The King’s Arms, which is a great spot for a mid-walk beverage. From here, you will continue along the road to the northwest, eventually turning right onto Gwavas Lane and following it downhill into Newlyn.

Take some time to appreciate the views of this coastal fishing town, as you work your way downhill and past the harbour to reach High Street. Here, you can explore the shops and cafes to your heart’s content, before setting out on the remainder of your adventure. Be sure to pop into Aunty May’s Pasties, for some of the most delicious (and largest!) Cornish pasties that you will find anywhere in the region.

After exploring High Street, you will make your way back along The Strand, keeping left alongside the harbour in order to follow the coast to the southeast. Here, you will follow along a trail that runs parallel to Cliff Road, while enjoying some absolutely stunning views of Mount’s Bay. Eventually, you will round Penlee Point and make your way back into Mousehole, where you can spend some time exploring the village, before heading home having completed the Mousehole and Newlyn Circular Walk.

Mount’s Bay

Located on the Cornish Coast, Mount’s Bay is a large bay that extends along the English Channel from Lizard Point to Gwennap Head. While it may look rather peaceful, in the winter the bay is subject to onshore gales that pose a real threat to sailing ships in the area. As such, there are over 150 known shipwrecks from the 19th Century that are scattered throughout the bay.
