Pyramid Mountain Trail is a hike in Olympic National Forest that is moderately trafficked and just over 6.2mi long. This hike is hard but very fun, with fantastic views at the roomy summit and a landslide to cross that is unnerving to some but thrilling to others. If you’re quite scared of heights, this might not be the one for you, but if you can get across the landslide portion you’ll love the reward.

Pyramid Mountain Trail Description

Pyramid Mountain is a great hike, offering a bit of challenge, a technical section, and fantastic views in a half-day excursion. The view from the summit is incredible, and there’s lots of room up there to settle in and enjoy it.

There is a landslide-affected portion of this trail that some hikers feel unsafe crossing. Take your time and assess your comfort level as you go.

From the trailhead, take Pyramid Mountain Trail (the middle of the three trails). It traverses just above the lake for a bit before beginning to climb gradually. With some narrow switchbacks to help, you’ll continue to gain elevation.

The trail dips and re-climbs several times—remember that for the return trip! On the other side of the ridge, you’ll approach the summit area. At the top you can seeLake Crescent, Mount Storm King, the Lake Crescent Lodge, Lake Sutherland, Port Angeles, the ocean and Mount Baker.

Retrace your steps back to the trailhead to return.
