The Ballygilbert Church to Helen’s Bay beach Walk is a pleasant adventure in County Down that will take you past historical sites for views along the coast. While out walking the trail, you will follow along a tree lined path and make your way around Grey Point Fort to walk along the coast and take in views of Belfast Lough. This is an excellent walk to enjoy some seaside views on the weekend.

If you enjoy taking lengthy walks along the water and visiting historical sites, then you will definitely want to check out the Ballygilbert Church to Helen’s Bay Beach Walk. Although this is an intermediate length route, the easy-going terrain makes this trail perfectly suitable for a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the northeast along a forested path that will bring you closer towards the coast. Eventually, you will break free of the tree cover and arrive at Helen’s Bay Beach, where you can lay out in the sun and enjoy some beautiful views across the Irish Sea.

From here, you will head to the northwest and climb gently uphill around Grey Point, taking in the views of the water on your right and the 20th Century battery on your left. Continue heading west along the rugged coastal terrain, where you will experience a great sightline across Belfast Lough, which saw the infamous Titanic set sail after its completion in 1912. After reaching the terminus of the route at the water treatment plant, simply turn back and retrace your steps along the trail.
