The Malton and Saint Mary’s Prior Walk is an amazing city adventure that will take you to a number of interesting highlights in this riverside town. While out on the trail, you will visit the historic churches of St Michael and St Mary’s Priory, in addition to exploring the market area and visit an ancient Roman fort along the banks of the River Derwent. What a fantastic way to spend an afternoon!

If you enjoy taking fun city walks that are packed full of interesting highlights and a charming riverside setting, then you will absolutely want to check out the Malton and Saint Mary’s Priory Walk in North Yorkshire.

Located just east of the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic market town of Malton is a fascinating place that has so much to offer. In addition to the actual market area, this trail will take you past several religious sites, including St Michael’s church in the heart of the town and St Mary’s Priory just on the outskirts.

From here, you will loop around to the southwest along the banks of the River Derwent, where you will find Orchard Fields – the site of an ancient Roman fort. At this point, it is a quick walk back into the starting point of the walk, where you can freely explore the rest of this fascinating town along the banks of the River Derwent.
