The Bat Lake Trail is a nice and easy hiking route within Algonquin Provincial Park that provides some beautifully scenic views of the surrounding woodland landscape and the chance to hike along several small lakes. While out on the trail, you will make your way through a variety of terrain, including forested paths, creekside walkways, and wooden boardwalks. The route also features a few short climbs; however, the majority of the terrain is perfectly suited for a fun family hike.
Getting there
To get to the starting point for the Bat Lake Trail from the west gate of Algonquin Park, head to the northeast along ON-60E for 18.9mi and turn left to enter the parking lot.

Bat Lake Trail Description
Overall, the Bat Lake Trail is a fairly easy going experience that won’t expose you to much in the way of challenging or difficult to navigate terrain. Some parts of the route may be a bit muddy or icy depending on the time of year, so come prepared with proper hiking footwear and any necessary gear that you may need while out on your hike. Additionally, you will want to bring bug spray to protect yourself while out on the trail.
As previously mentioned, the Bat Lake Trail is perfectly suited for an amazing day spent out on the trails with the family. Terrain along the route is easy to navigate, yet features enough variation to keep it interesting for beginner and experienced hikers alike. Keep your eyes peeled for a variety of wildlife species and beautiful views that can be had around the quiet shores of Bat Lake.
Setting out from the parking area, enter into the dense cover of the forest and follow the path to the north to work your way around the western edge of Davies Bog and cross over a small creek. From here, continue on through the tranquil atmosphere of the woodland landscape for 0.96km to arrive at the scenic shores of Bat Lake. Take some time to appreciate the natural beauty of this pristine lakeside setting before setting out for the remainder of the hike.
From Bat Lake, follow along the trail as it leads towards the southwest and crosses over another small creek after 0.6mi. Immediately after crossing the creek, the trail will begin to climb uphill through the forest to reach a scenic lookout across the surrounding landscape. Continue on as the route turns further to the southwest to descend the opposite side of the hill and arrive at the banks of Jack Creek.
At this point, you will turn left along the trail and follow it to the east as it skirts alongside the flowing waters of the creek. After 1.0mi of hiking through the forest alongside Jack Creek, you will arrive back at the starting point of the hike, having spent a great day enjoying the natural beauty along the Bat Lake Trail.
