The Steel Fell, Dead Pike, and Calf Crag Walk is an awesome Lake District adventure that will take you through some rugged and beautiful terrain to the northwest of Grasmere. Along the trail, you will traverse several summits and enjoy views of the surrounding Lake District landscape, including well known fells like Helm Crag. This trail does feature some challenging terrain that is exposed to the elements, making it suitable for seasoned walkers.
Getting there
To reach the trailhead for the Steel Fell, Dead Pike, and Calf Crag Walk from Ambleside, drive north along Rydal Road/A591 for 3.5mi and take the first exit at the roundabout onto Stock Lane. You will arrive at the trailhead in 0.5mi

Walking the Steel Fell, Dead Pike, and Calf Crag Trail is an activity that is popular with seasoned outdoor enthusiasts, due largely to the beautifully scenic views and challenging terrain that can be found along the route. Setting out from the village of Grasmere, you will head to the northwest and work through the valley floor at the base of Helm Crag before climbing up the hillside to the summit of Steel Fell. While enjoying the scenic views of nearby peaks and Thirlmere to the north, you will follow the trail to the southwest as it loops around Calf Crag, Gibson Knott, and Helm Crag on the return leg of the trail that will bring you back to the village.
