Moel Eilio Circular Walk

For a scenic adventure with the convenience of a nearby village, the Moel Eilio Circular Walk is hard to beat. From the car park, head through the gate and take the path on the right of the farmhouse ahead. The trail passes through several gates as it leads you north. After one of these gates is an open grassy area. You’ll see a broad path on the left winding steadily uphill, which marks the start of your proper ascent. From here, it’s a steady climb, with increasing steepness as you approach the summit of Moel Eilio.

Once you’re at the top, take a rest and enjoy the well-deserved views. In good weather, you’ll spot the legendary Snowdon mountain, along with countless other peaks in the Glyderau range and even down to the Llyn peninsula, known as “Snowdon’s Arm,” extending into the sea. A well-constructed rock shelter creates the perfect summit breakpoint.

Continue along the ridge toward the lower peaks of Foel Gron and Foel Goch. There are several rises and dips in elevation, but the grassy surface makes for a comfortable traverse. Splendid views over the nearby Nantlle Ridge accompany your every step. From Foel Goch, begin your descent along a northeast path into the Maesgwm Valley. The first bit is steep and without a clear path, but it’s not long before you reach a well-established bridleway that leads you across an array of beautiful rivers back to your starting point.
