The Llyn Gwynant Walk in Snowdonia National Forest is a rarely-travelled trail to a serene lake deep in the hills of the park. As you enjoy how the lake reflects the red and green hills surrounding it, you’re unlikely to encounter more company than local wildlife. This trail presents no technical challenges or significant elevation gain, making it a perfect outing in the stellar nature of Snowdonia for hikers and walkers of any level.
Getting there
The Llyn Gwynant Walk begins from the Llyn Gwynant Campsite. From Nant Gwynant, take A498 north for 1.6mi and take the left exit onto the campsite road. Take your first left and park at the campsite.

Llyn Gwynant Walk Description
This lovely walk isn’t particularly well-marked, so we recommend downloading the map and turning back to retrace your steps whenever you feel you’ve gone far enough.
The trail begins from the Llyn Gwynant Campsite. Approach the shore and follow the path that wraps around the lake heading to the left. You’ll follow the shores of the lake until you cross Afon Cors-y-Celyn. Here, take the trail that branches off to the left.
Stay left as there is a private trail that intersects with your trail several times. You’ll be mostly following Afon Cors-y-Celyn as you gain modest elevation.
You can follow this trail for several kilometres, but most will stop on the ridge that overlooks Llyn Gwynant, as this is the most rewarding viewpoint. Retrace your steps from here, taking care to stay right off of the private trail.
You’ll gently descend to the lakeshore. Turn right once you reach the main trail at the shore and continue to the campsite.

Llyn Gwynant is considered by some to be one of the prettiest lakes in Wales. It tends to be calm, and the surrounding hills are reflected beautifully in the water on still days. The surrounding scenery is pristine and mostly untouched, making it a fantastic place to find some refuge in nature.
