Looking for an ideal year-round walk? The Swyncombe Snowdrops Circular in the Chilterns is a must-do loop. In February, you can join snowdrop teas and events thrown by the church. And no matter when you go, you’ll enjoy the history embroidered along this 2.9mi circuit! Travel along a section of the famous Ridgeway before meeting up with Ewelme Park, a hunting lodge for King Henry VIII once-upon-a-time. The woodland and pastures stretching across Swyncombe Park add a layer of charm to the Swyncombe Snowdrops Circular to top it off.
Getting there
To get to the start of the Swyncombe Snowdrops Circular from Watlington, follow Howe Hill, which eventually becomes B481 before taking a right onto Coates Lane and another quick right to stay on the same road. 230ft later, turn left onto Church Lane and follow this road for 0.8ft. Go left onto Rectory Hill/Swyncombe Church. Followed by a right on Swyncombe Church. Your destination will be on your left.

The Swyncombe Snowdrops Circular is a fantastic walking trail in the Chilterns that can be accessed year-round. Feel free to spend some time exploring St Botolph’s Church and the surrounding area before starting your walk, which starts just outside of the church. In February, you’ll definitely want to spend time exploring the churchyard as it transforms into a snowdrop marvel!
To start the walk, face the church, and go right along the access lane. Just after the double gateway, you’ll reach a crossroads. Head along the track in the middle, signed as the Ridgeway. This loop will take you through Jacobs Tent woodland and towards Ewelme Park, which used to host King Henry VIII. From here, the path starts to loop around, taking you to Haycroft Wood. Walk through the thick of this woodland before skirting along the edge of Church Wood. After, you’ll continue back to the church, where your walk began.
