Wood Bison Trail Description
The Wood Bison Trail is a top pick for wildlife lovers. If you are visiting the park and hoping to see the wood bison that call the area home, this is the trail for you. Wood Bison have been occupying this area since the 1960s. From the trailhead, take the trail to the left, hiking in a clockwise direction. After 2.8mi of forest, you will meet some stunning viewpoints at Flyingshot Lake. Continue for another 2.2mi to meet a series of boardwalks over marshlands. This is a great spot for wildlife viewing. Besides the notable wood bison, look for moose, elk, and a variety of birds. Continue on reaching open meadows, aspen forest, and more boardwalks before reaching the trailhead.
