The Marble Canyon hike in Kootenay National Park is a beautiful hike that follows Marble Canyon, which has been cut by Tokkum Creek. This hike is easily accessible for anyone wishing to get out and enjoy the beauty and power of nature. Several bridges cross over the creek below and really showcase just how much the water has carved deep into the land to create Marble Canyon. This is a great walk in Kootenay NP.

Getting there

From Banff get on the Trans Canada Hwy/AB - 1W for about 18.6mi to Castle Junction, and then take the exit for the 93S signed for Radium Hot Springs. Follow the 93S for 56ft until you reach the Marble Canyon Trailhead on your right.

Route Description for Marble Canyon

The Marble Canyon Hike is an easy hike, and should be on any itinerary for visitors to Banff. The route is easy to follow, and has great views of the surrounding mountains as well as Marble Canyon below. This hike is the perfect place to stretch your legs or take the little ones out for a walk on the drive to or from Radium. It should be noted that while there is fencing on most of the hike, you should plan on holding children’s hands on this hike, as the consequences of a fall past the fence could be significant.

The path around Marble Canyon is well constructed, and takes you from one side of Marble Canyon to the other side. Along the way you have stunning views to the Tokkum River below.

As you follow the well-marked trail, take time to appreciate the beauty of the re-growing forest, and your surroundings.

Once you reach the end of the trail, return, and where possible take paths you didn’t take on the way out.

Simply amazing! Kind of busy after 9 am but well worth it. Not that exhausting and very easy for the kids.

Awesome hike, very short and kid-friendly. Really good to teach about the erosion process and the birth of a canyon. If you go all the way you can see the river, the falls, and the canyon. Better spend couple of hours to take it all in!
