Barmouth Panorama hike

From the car park, turn left along the sea front, then follow the road as it bends to the left following the coastline. There are some toilets here on your right should you wish to use them. From here, continue under the railway line and turn right at the road junction.

Follow the A496 for just under 0.3mi, then turn left onto Panorama Road that leads you steeply uphill. Continue ahead, ignoring the road as it loops off to the right. Pedestrian access allows you to follow the narrowing footway before again merging with Panorama Road.

After 0.6mi from the foot of Panorama Road, follow the footpath off to the right through a metal gate, signposted Panorama Walk. The grassy track dips down behind a barn and then you will again begin to climb. The path soon becomes enclosed between two walls before passing through a gate. After the gate, turn immediately right through a second gate and follow the waymarked path uphill. Keep left where the path forks. Shortly the path emerges onto a rocky headland where you will find excellent views across the estuary and out to sea. Follow the path as it loops back around and rejoins the main path up.

Back at the gate turn right and follow the old road as it drops down through the woodland. After 0.6mi, the path meets a tarmacked lane. Turn left and follow the lane uphill towards the scattered village of Cutiau. As the road ends, keep ahead following the waymarked footpath (yellow arrows). The path sweeps round to the left and comes to a junction. Turn left onto the footpath marked with yellow posts. The path climbs steeply before joining a tarmacked lane just beyond a small farm. Continue on the lane. At the T-junction with the road turn left and then shortly turn right onto the signposted footpath that heads uphill towards the radio mast.

Continue up to the radio mast and then follow the path around to the right of it. Follow the path up the slopes of Bwlch y LLan. As the path levels out, pass through the kissing gate and turn immediately left to follow the path across the rugged uplands. From here the path is well marked and meanders gently downhill to a small farm, Gellfawr.

Turn right below the farm building and follow the waymarked route. Cross the stream and then turn right to follow the track around the rocky outcrop. At the ruins of Cell Fechan there is an option of a slight detour out to a memorial on Craig y Gigfan. This is definitely worthwhile, a great final view point!

Retrace your steps back to the main path, running right to continue downhill. Follow the track as it zig-zags back and forth down the steep slopes into Barmouth. Ignore the track off to the left about halfway down and keep to the main track. Upon reaching the road turn left and head towards the sea, following the road through the town centre and across the railway line. At the seafront,turn left to return to the car park.
