Not to be confused with the Wildcat Canyon Trail, the Wildcat Valley Trail is a neighboring hike through a more rugged desert landscape. This trail can be tricky to navigate but rewards hikers with stunning views that can be enjoyed in solitude. The Wildcat Valley is a great place to get away from the crowds of the main valley and enjoy time among desert flora and fauna.

Wildcat Valley Trail Description

The Wildcat Valley Trail is a quiet trail in the Kolob Canyons area that offers hikers peace and tranquility in Zion National Park. Because this trail is not well-travelled, some creative route finding may be required. It isn’t a bad idea to bring a GPS unit along with you on this hike to help you stay on track. This hike is also a common locale for desert wildlife such as mule deer, lizards, and snakes.

Follow the well-defined trail beginning at the Wildcat Canyon Trailhead off of Kolob Reservoir Road. A connector trail will swoop in from behind you about 0.9mi in, and just past this, the trail will divide in two. Take a right at this junction and, from there, stick to your left. The trail ahead will divide several times within the next two miles—all of these divides are part of the same trail and just connect back with each other shortly after the split.

Pick your way down the paths as they track southeast to Russell Gulch. Pause here for a snack and a rest before heading back the way you came.
